We're so excited you've joined such an important profession.  Before you begin at your site, new team members are required to have 8 hours of Preservice Training and Orientation before being given responsibility for a group of children and be counted in the staff/child ratio.  Check out our training formats and topics below.

Preservice Training topics include:

  • Developmental stages of children
  • Age-appropriate activities for children
  • Positive guidance and discipline of children
  • Fostering positive self-esteem
  • Positive interaction with children
  • Supervision and safety practices in the care of children
  • Preventing and controlling the spread of communicable diseases, including immunizations

Orientation topics include:

  • An overview of minimum standards
  • Release of children procedures
  • Prevention, recognition, and reporting of child maltreatment and neglect
  • Emergency preparedness 
  • Administering medications
  • Preventing and responding to emergencies due to food or an allergic reaction
  • Building and physical premises safety
  • Handling, storing, and disposing of hazardous materials
  • Vehicular traffic-precautions in transporting children
